Hotel Review- Atrium Beach Resort- Sint Maarten
When dreaming of an escape to an island paradise in the Caribbean, many options come to mind. But if you want to optimize your time and strategically place yourself in an area where you will be able to utilize the geography to benefit your adventurous spirit, take a close look at Sint Maarten/ St. Martin. But don’t think St. Martin will be able to deliver to you an island paradise, because a paradise it is not. Although, if you look real hard, you can find some bursts of Caribbean beauty at some of the islands 40 beaches. St. Martin is well developed making it enticing to its more luxurious neighbors as a critical bystander.
Strategically placed in the middle of the Caribbean islands and only a short ferry ride away from the uber luxurious Anguilla and St. Barths, you have arrived at the center of paradise. The island has a unique gemini-ish character, splitting its personalities in two. One half of the island is French and the other Dutch. The two governments living together harmoniously sharing the tranquil beach settings and array of aqua water laden shores proving that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
I found myself feeling a bit Dutch when I laid down my temporary roots for one month at the Atrium Beach Resort located in Simpson Bay. I was welcomed with the convenience of its location near the airport and its proximity to an assemblage of restaurants, bars, beach cafes, entertainment, nightlife and grocers within walking distance to the hotel.
I was pleasantly surprised to check-in and find I would be unpacking and settling into a full one-bedroom apartment endowed with a full-size kitchen, two balconies overlooking the pool and bay and plenty of room to sprawl about and stretch my sun-beaten legs. The hotel doubles as a time share resort which always allows for more comfort and space over an ordinary hotel.
Located directly on the beach and only a short drive to the French side, the Atrium Beach Resort finds itself just about as strategically placed as the island itself. The hotel offers its guests complimentary beach chairs, beach towels and full maid service. It was nice to cook breakfast in the morning and have someone else do the dishes for once. Now that is a vacation!
I had a chance to sample the spa services in ‘Miguel’s Salon’ attached to the hotel. Unfortunately, the salon fell flat to my expectations. Maybe since it was not high season, the owner didn’t feel it necessary to give his full attention to me. The salon had a lot to be desired in way of service.
When you’re ready to venture out from the hotel, the activities desk and convenient car rental services will help you find your way. And if you find yourself wanting to stay close to home, the beach side bonfire at The Buccaneer and open-air bar located by the pool will be sure to supply you with a bit of romance and comfort right in your new back yard.
